JET LINER
JET LINER

JET LINER
Description: Here's an all-balsa flying wing with Jetex power that you can build in one evening using the easy to follow full-size plan.

This all-balsa Jetex 50-powered flying wing is almost indestructible. And, despite the fact that it is small in size, the flying qualities are great. Total weight was kept down by the proper selection of light quarter-grained (C-stock) balsa.

The generous amount of sweep-back with the upturned tips affords good longitudinal stability and the cabane area, along with the drooped tips, provides good directional stability. The placement of the jet motor gives a high thrust line, which prevents looping toward the end of the
flight when the motor is delivering maximum thrust.

CONSTRUCTION: The full-size plans make this a simple project. Start building by cutting the wings to shape from 1/16 sheet balsa, as shown on the plans. Then sand them lightly and round the edges.

The stabilizer and rudders, all of which have the same shape, are cut from 1/16 sheet balsa, fol-lowing the plan. Make sure the grain of the wood runs as shown on the drawing. Cut two tip-angle jigs and use them to obtain the proper dihedral angle.

Now lay one half of the wing upside-down on the edge of your table as shown in the plans and raise the other half 4-1/2 in above the table top. Cement in position. Then, cement stabilizers to the trailing edge of the wing, raising the edge 1/4 in as shown in the top view.

The cabane is cut from 1/8 sheet balsa, with the grain running as shown. Then cement the jet holder in position, using bandage to secure it, and cement the cabane in place. Sand the entire model and brush on one coat of glider polish and sand the model with 9/0 sandpaper, to obtain a finer finish. The desired trim is obtained by using Trim-Film, which comes in various colors and checker de-signs.
