As promised, here are the results for the TSP L-1 version 2:

Above: the new Tender L-1 is longer than the original and weighs a bit more.

And here are the graphs:

These are very nice indeed and fully comparable to the Rapier L-1. They ignited well after boring out with a 1 mm bit.

The TSP L-4 is much larger and equivalent to the Rapier L-3. Below is a comparison of the TSP Tender motors after ignition, showing that the cases are up to spec.

Below are the raw data for the TSP L-4 motor, compared to the larger Rapier types. The thrust and duration for the Rapier L-3 and L-4 are from memory and may need correction:

The graph is below:

This is comparable to the Rapier L-3/L-4. It performed well on the test rig:

With this motor we can build those larger 'Flying Scale' Jetex models with some confidence we can power them!

I'm quite knackered after doing all this:

Above: Jetex Jim produces the time/thrust graphs using technology the founders of Jetex would have understood. No sophisticated test rigs with a piezo-electric strain gauge feeding a lap top and hence to an instant graph via Excel and printer!

My results are of course from static tests and the motor's performance on the flying field will of course be different under dynamic conditions. But these graphs are useful for comparison purposes.

Any comments on the motors and results are very welcome (and needed). Please contact Piotr for further details of supply and cost, etc.

This is cheering, not to say exciting, news indeed! After so many years of false promises and dashed hopes, it does indeed appear from Jetex Jim's results that a viable alternative power source is now available.

Piotr has informed me he has a new L-3 type motor in development and supplied the following details:

L3 parameters:
Length: 65mm
diameter: 13mm
Total weight: ~ 17g
empty weight: ~ 5.5g
Median thrust: ~ 280mN
Working time: 17-20s

These look like they would be just great for models like the MiG 29 or, say, Howard Metcalfe's Viggen or F-4 Phantom. B)

We now have a large(ish) batch of TSP 'Tender' L-1 motors in the UK. These are at least the equivalent of the Rapier L-1 motors of which we have none :( .

Unlike the Rapier motors, the Tender L-'s are sold in proper boxes of 12:

Price per box of twelve is £20 (20GBP) plus £3.50 P&P per box.

These are more expensive than Rapiers :S , but (a) these are a quality product, (b) they have been tested and their performance is known, (c) you don't really want all your lovely L-1 models to be grounded for ever do you!

Please contact me for payment details. Also, as they say, "Hurry, hurry whist stocks last!

Excellent news Roger , well done . Especially the longer burn times which should enable us to achieve improved flight times . Any idea of the propellant mix - is it similar to Rapiers. Only wondering as i assume storage conditions will be equally important in preserving the performance of these motors . As for availability do we order individually or is there an option for a group purchase , be nice to thank the manufacturer for his efforts -- suggest this rates as the ONLY piece of good news we have had so far in 2020 --- thanks again

Hi Tony,
I am not privy to the exact formulation of Piotr's TSP motors. They smell the same but different (if you take my meaning) and are a superior product being reliable and predictable.:)
I'm sure you can order from Piotr directly about a personal order (his email is in an earlier posting on this thread). However, I am expecting delivery of a batch of 50. These are for the 'beta testing' stage, but I will make these tested motors available to other fliers. The price is likely to be £25.00 for a box of ten.
Rapier motor mounts will need a little modification (the Tender motors are thicker and a bit heavier ) but this is not too difficult!

More later .... roll on the flying season. I'm sure rocket motor exhaust is deadly to any virus.:woohoo:
