Model jet plane & micro rocket motor topics |
 |
Model jet planes / Building Topics here pertain to the designing and building of small lightweight model airplanes. Our jet models are similar in many repects to the traditional balsa (both solid wood as well as tissue covered wood framed) models that use other powerplants. Some members had explored construction techniques that involve plastics and composites. Also covered here are topics relating to tool and adhesives choices.

Model jet planes / Flying After a model is constructed it must be flown. The process of trimming and test gliding is very important with a micro rocket powered model. These practices and procedures are discussed here. What makes the powered flight of these models both different and similar to models that use electric or gas engines spinning a propeller? This is the place where you can find out. Members also told of their flying experiences!

Micro rocket & reaction motors The metal bodied reloadable Jetex (and, later, the Jet-X) motors is what most people think of when our type of modelling is discussed. But there are other reaction powerplants to consider. Most flying these days is done with single-use cardboard tube motors called Rapiers. Technical operation, fuel formulations, and other topics that relate to the motors themselves are explored here.

History / Collecting The history of flying model airplanes with reaction powered motors is a lengthy and fascinating one. Those who are interested in uncovering these stories will want to look inside here. Vintage Jetex motors and memorabilia are in demand by both those who want to use it in the field and those who collect them for their historical significance. What IS that 50 year old motor really worth? If you are looking to either buy or sell your Jetex-related wares, this is the place to get an idea of values.
