Piotr Tendera has informed us that sales are insufficient to justify renewing the certification of the L-type engines for a third year. :(

Klima still have some stocks of certified motors; the snag here is that they will not ship to the UK. Terry Kidd comments, “Klima will not ship to the UK but they will ship to me in Munich so if you want motors tell me and I’ll order them and post them on.”

So the bottom line (bad news) is that it is no longer commercially viable for Piotr Tendera to make and Klima to distribute CE certified motors. :S

Hadi of VMC remains upbeat, telling us, “We have a few in stock at the moment which you can order over the phone to after checking the stock.” Which sounds good; but then comes the downer, “Please be aware that the rockets incur a £9.96 shipping surcharge as we are not allowed to send them by Royal Mail.”

The good news is that Piotr may continue manufacture of uncertified motors; the even better news is that, given TSP motors have a shelf life of at least five years I enough motors to last antique and ‘born again’ rocketeers to last, I would guess 2-3 years. :)

Of the ‘CE’ motors distributed by Klima I have many packs of L-1s motors rated at a very acceptable Jetex Atom 35-like 100 mN, a few L-2Ls and L-3s rated at a Jetex 50-like 170 mN and L-3s rated at 550 mN (suitable for models designed for a Jetex 200 and, some genuine L-4s that, I suspect could show a clean pair of heals to a Jetex 350
However most of my motors are of the ‘pre CE variety with ratings from 170 to 350 mN. These can be matched to any ‘Jetex’ model, vintage or modern, scale or duration and worked well last year. Sold in packs (or bags) of ten they are perhaps not as refined or consistent as the more refined CE variety, but they come a good deal cheaper! Please contact me with your requirements. B)

As I wrote last year, 330/350 mN is rather more power than we would want to put in models originally designed for Rapier L-2, but drilling out the nozzle to from 1.5 mm to 1.8 mm gave a very acceptable 180 mN (or so) for 16 seconds. Also, there is no equivalent to the old Rapier L-2L, but carefully boring out the 1.5 mm diameter nozzle of a 170 mN rated L-2 to 1.7 mm gave around 100 mN for 23 sec. Perfect! One point to note is that the fierce but effective Klima fuse will not fit the 1.5 mm nozzle of these motors and the old ‘Rapier-type fuses’ are also not always effective so electric ignition is much to be preferred

Yes, as Roger says I can order from Klima and then post them to you via DHL, takes about 2 weeks or, if I'm coming to the UK send them from there

I've just heard from Piotr this afternoon. He says he is extending the certification of his L motors, the ones we are interested in, for another year! :) :)
